

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck the waters off Balut Island in the Municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, early Wednesday morning, July 1, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
PHIVOLCS said the earthquake occurred at 5:34 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The quake was felt at Intensity IV in Kiamba, Sarangani, and Intensity I in General Santos City.
Based on instrumental monitoring, Intensity III was recorded in Kiamba and Maasim, Sarangani.
Intensity II was recorded in Santa Maria, Davao Occidental; Malapatan, Malungon, and Maitum, Sarangani; T'boli, South Cotabato; and Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.
Meanwhile, Intensity I was recorded in Digos City, Davao del Sur; and Koronadal City, Surallah, and Santo Niño in South Cotabato.
PHIVOLCS said the earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 offshore Sarangani earthquake and the magnitude 6.5 offshore Davao Occidental earthquake that struck in June 2026.
