A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Friday morning, August 14, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Based on PHIVOLCS’ Earthquake Information No. 1, the earthquake occurred at 9:14 a.m. and had a depth of 10 kilometers.

The epicenter was located at 05.21°N, 125.07°E, or 44 kilometers south-southwest of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The earthquake registered Instrumental Intensity III in Maasim, Sarangani. Intensity II was recorded in Kiamba and Malapatan in Sarangani; General Santos City; and Tupi and T’Boli in South Cotabato.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Malungon and Maitum in Sarangani and Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat.

PHIVOLCS said the earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 offshore Sarangani and magnitude 6.5 offshore Davao Occidental earthquakes that occurred in June 2026.

The agency said no damage was expected from the earthquake and no further aftershocks were expected.

Earlier at 2:39 a.m., a magnitude 5.9 earthquake also struck Sarangani, Davao Occidental, with the same depth of 10 kilometers.
