A magnitude 5.0 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Currimao, Ilocos Norte, at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake’s epicenter was located about 63 kilometers northwest of Currimao, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.

Weak shaking, classified as Instrumental Intensity I, was detected in Laoag City and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte, as well as in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Phivolcs said that aftershocks are expected following the tremor but no damage is anticipated.

No tsunami warning has been raised.
