A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Davao Occidental's Sarangani Island on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Based on its monitoring, PHIVOLCS reported that the earthquake occurred at 6:26 AM with a depth of 97 kilometers. The tremor was tectonic in origin.

Instrumental intensities were observed in the following areas:

• Intensity III – Malungon, Sarangani
• Intensity II – Glan and Kiamba, Sarangani
• Intensity I – Maasim, Sarangani; Matanao, Davao del Sur; T'boli, South Cotabato

Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS said no damage or aftershocks are expected.
