A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck near San Policarpo in Eastern Samar early Wednesday morning, April 29, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tectonic quake occurred at 6:58 a.m., located approximately 44 kilometers north east of San Policarpo, with a depth of 18 kilometers.
PHIVOLCS reported the following felt intensities:
- Intensity III – Can-avid, Arteche, and Borongan City, Eastern Samar
Instrumental intensities recorded were:
- Intensity III – Can-Avid, Eastern Samar; Palapag, Northern Samar
- Intensity II – Gandara, Samar
- Intensity I – Carigara, Abuyog, Alangalang, and Dulag, Leyte
The agency initially recorded the earthquake at magnitude 5.4 but later downgraded it to magnitude 4.8 after further analysis.
PHIVOLCS said no damage is expected from the earthquake, and no aftershocks are anticipated.
