Another earthquake with a 4.7-magnitude struck the coastal waters of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday morning, January 21, 2026, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The earthquake was recorded at 7:25 a.m., originating 35 kilometers south of Kalamansig, Phivolcs said.
PHIVOLCS also reported that the earthquake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers.
Despite the relatively moderate magnitude, instrumental intensity readings showed light shaking in several areas across Mindanao:
- Intensity III - Lebak and Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat
- Intensity I - Kiamba and Maitum, Saranggani; T'Boli, Norala, Tupi, and Santo Niño, South Cotabato
The affected area has been experiencing a series of weak earthquakes for more than a week, raising concern among residents in parts of Mindanao.
However, PHIVOLCS said that these recent tremors are aftershocks of the 5.2-magnitude earthquake that struck the same area on January 20.
No reports of damage or injuries were immediately recorded following the 4.7-magnitude quake.
