The camp of Ramil Madriaga welcomed the dismissal of the perjury complaint filed against him by Vice President Sara Duterte, calling the resolution of the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office an important vindication of his position.
In a statement, Madriaga’s counsel, Atty. Mark Anthony E. Te of Palad Lauron Palad & Te Law Firm, said the resolution shows that the strength of a case should be determined by evidence and the law, rather than the volume of documents filed, media attention, or the stature of the complainant.
“This Resolution is a clear reminder that the strength of a case is not measured by the volume of papers filed, the amount of media attention generated, or the stature and position of the person making the accusation,” Te said.
He stressed that allegations must still be tested against evidence and applicable laws, emphasizing that publicity cannot replace proof.
“No amount of publicity can substitute for proof. No title, office, or political influence can cure the absence of sufficient evidence,” Te said.
According to Te, the dismissal is an important vindication for Madriaga and should restore public confidence that institutions can rise above personalities and political power when evidence is fairly examined.
“For our client, this dismissal is an important vindication of his position. More importantly, it should serve as a source of renewed confidence for the Filipino people that our institutions can still rise above personalities and political power, and that when the evidence is fairly examined, the truth can still prevail,” he said.
Te acknowledged that the pursuit of truth and justice can be difficult, particularly when individuals face powerful interests. He maintained, however, that the resolution demonstrates that political power does not have the final say.
“Power does not have the final word. Evidence does. The law does,” Te said.
