“Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin penned a heartfelt message to his on-screen mother, the late Catherine O’Hara, on Saturday, January 31.
Hours after the actress’ passing was announced, Culkin posted on social media, along with two photos from the Christmas film “Home Alone” and his 2023 Walk of Fame Ceremony, where the actress honored him in a speech.
“Mama. I thought we had time,” the actor wrote.
“I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later,” he added.
Culkin and O’Hara maintained a close friendship even after filming for the two “Home Alone” films had ended.
Apart from Culkin, tributes from several actors and friends also poured in.
“Beetlejuice” and the “Nightmare Before Christmas” director Tim Burton posted a tribute to O’Hara, stating, "Catherine, I love you. This picture shows how much light you gave to all of us. You were a special part of my life and after life."
Subsequently, Michael Keaton, who plays Beetlejuice, reminisced about his friendship with the late actress.
"We go back before the first Beetlejuice. She’s been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis and my real life, true friend. This one hurts. Man am I gonna miss her. Thinking about Beau as well,” Keaton wrote.
Pedro Pascal also posted a photo with O’Hara from “The Last of Us” movie set. He wrote, “Oh, genius to be near you. Eternally grateful. There is less light in my world, this lucky world that had you, will keep you, always.”
O’Hara passed away on Friday (U.S. time) in Los Angeles after a “brief illness,” her manager confirmed to U.S. media outlets.
She is survived by her husband and children.
