The Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) coalition has issued a strong statement calling on the Senate to address alleged prolonged absenteeism of Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, questioning continued salary payments and urging lawmakers to uphold integrity, transparency, and responsibility.

In a public statement, the group claimed that Dela Rosa had been absent from Senate duties for around seven months, only resurfacing on May 14, 2026, to participate to vote on Senate leadership change. The group also raised questions regarding the continued receipt of government salary during his absence.

“Kalahating taong absent si Senador Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa… Kada buwan, higit-kumulang PHP300,000 ang tinatanggap niyang sahod,” the statement read, estimating that total compensation received during the period could have reached approximately PHP2.1 million.

The group emphasized that under standard labor practices in both public and private sectors, “no work, no pay” principles are typically enforced, arguing that similar accountability should apply to elected officials.

“Sa manggagawang Pilipino, umiiral ang ‘no work, no pay.’ If this were an ordinary employee, they would likely face suspension or termination,” the statement added.

The mayors also described the situation as a “serious concern” amid ongoing economic challenges faced by ordinary Filipinos, including rising prices and livelihood difficulties. They stressed that public office should not be treated as a “safe haven for absenteeism,” urging the Senate to ensure transparency and discipline among its members.

“Nananawagan kami sa ating mga senador: the Senate should not be a refuge for absenteeism and shielding,” the group said, adding that lawmakers themselves must lead by example in upholding the law and public trust.

As of 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, the statement has been signed by 58 members of the Mayors for Good Governance, including Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, among others.
