Lyca Gairanod clarified during a sit-down interview on Tuesday that her purported alliance with the UniTeam tandem—then-candidates Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte—was nothing “personal.”

The “Puwede Nang Mangarap” singer said she was not particular about the issue of politics and her decision to follow incumbent President Marcos and Vice President Duterte was not motivated by personal considerations.

“Ako naman po, when it comes to social media, kahit naman po sino, puwede kong i-follow. So wala naman po sa’kin, hindi siya personal, wala namang pong kahit ano,” she clarified.

Lyca explained that her father had suffered a stroke back in 2022, and so she took on any job offer, despite knowing that some—like her performance at the UniTeam’s campaign rally—would be met with backlash.

“So wala naman akong ano sa politics. So noong time noon… 2022, ‘yung father ko po is na-stroke. So lahat po ng work is tinanggap ko, kahit ano pa iyan—ma-bash man ako, ano mang sabihin ng ibang tao. Basta sa pamilya ko. Lalo na po sa papa ko at that time,” she told talk show host Boy Abunda.

“Kasi ginawa ko nga po ‘yung pangarap kong iyon para sa kanila. Susukuan ko po ba?” she added.

After her song “Puwede Nang Mangarap” went viral, Lyca found herself in a tight spot after netizens began questioning her political stance.

“Bakit niyo ba ako pinapakialaman?,” she had asked in a TikTok Live in September, explaining she has no faith in politics.
