The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that Luzon and Visayas grids will be placed under red and yellow alerts on Wednesday, April 24.

In advisory, the NGCP said the Luzon grid will be under a yellow alert from 1 PM to 3 PM and from 4 PM to 10 PM while a red alert will be raised from 3 PM to 4 PM.

The available capacity was at 14, 241MW while the peak demand was at 13,643MW.

According to the agency, four plants have been on forced outage since 2023, four others between January and March 2024, and 12 since April 2024.

Meanwhile, 2 plants are running on derated capacities resulting in a total of 1,840.3MW unavailable to the grid.

In Visayas, yellow alert will be raised from 10 AM to 12 NN, 5 PM to 6 PM, and 8 PM to 9 PM while red alert will be from 12 NN to 5 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM.

It added that one plant has been on forced outage since 2022, two since 2023, two between January and March 2024, and 15 since April 2024. Meanwhile, 8 others are running on derated capacities, resulting in a total of 621.6MW unavailable to the grid.

Mindanao grid, on the other hand, will be under a yellow alert from 10 AM to 4 PM with available capacity of 2,761MW and peak demand of 2,614MW.

The NGCP noted that 9 plants have been on forced outage since April 2024, while five are running on derated capacities, for a total of 673.98MW unavailable to the grid.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
