House Committee on Justice chairperson and Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro denied Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Imee Marcos’ remarks that lawmakers were allegedly receiving financial incentives and projects in exchange for voting to impeach the Vice President.
Speaking at a news forum in Quezon City, Luistro rejected claims that members of the House of Representatives were being offered cash, additional Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE), and infrastructure projects tied to the impeachment proceedings against Duterte.
“Of course, I can speak for myself only and I deny that pronouncement of Senator Imee with all due respect to her,” Luistro said.
“Wala po akong na-encounter na ganyan,” she added.
Luistro also denied Marcos’ allegation that lawmakers who would vote against the impeachment could allegedly face a “zero budget” allocation and possible legal charges.
“I deny that as well, and as far as I am concerned, wala po tayong naririnig, na-eencounter na ganyan. As a matter of fact, wala pong kumausap sa akin regarding this impeachment process since day one of our proceedings in the Justice Committee,” she said.
Earlier, Marcos claimed that an alleged “incentive package” was being offered to congressmen ahead of the scheduled plenary vote on the impeachment complaint against Duterte on May 11.
According to Marcos, lawmakers voting in favor of the impeachment were allegedly being promised P5 million in cash, an additional P3 million in monthly MOOE, and projects worth P150 million.
Luistro likewise dismissed Duterte’s allegation that some lawmakers were profiting from the impeachment proceedings.
“Similar answer to that, I deny that. Wala po tayong na-encounter na mga ganyang offer. As a matter of fact, we consumed two months in the Justice Committee,” Luistro said.
“Wala pong kumausap sa akin, nag-alok sa akin, nanakot sa akin. I deny the statement of the Vice President,” she added.
Duterte earlier alleged during an interview in The Hague that some lawmakers were using her name to gain money.
“Madami ang pumipera gamit ang pangalan ko. Sana maambunan ang mga constituents nila ng mga pera sa kanilang bulsa o maleta,” Duterte said.
The House Committee on Justice has already approved the committee report on the impeachment complaints against the Vice President.
The House plenary is scheduled to vote on the articles of impeachment on May 11.
