House Justice panel chairperson and Batangas 1st District Rep. Gerville Luistro on Monday dismissed Senator Imee Marcos’ allegations of a “no-election” scenario in 2028 as a mere “diversionary tactic.”
“That is just a diversionary tactic,” Luistro said during a press conference on June 1.
“Wala ngang discussion dito about no-election,” she added, stressing that there has been no talk within the House of Representatives regarding any move to cancel future elections.
The statement comes after Sen. Marcos earlier accused the current administration of allegedly pushing for charter change and a possible extension of officials’ terms.
Luistro rejected the claim, saying the House remains focused on its legislative agenda and upcoming impeachment-related preparations.
“Our focus is simple, legislation on the priority measures and preparation for the impeachment,” she said.
“Yung mga pronouncement ni Senator Imee, I don't know where she got that. But in as far as I am concerned, because I can speak only for myself, wala pong mga ganyang discussion dito sa House of Representatives,” she added.
The Palace earlier also described Marcos’ claims as a “diversionary tactic,” linking the remarks to heightened political tensions ahead of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa's escape.
Meanwhile, before departing for Japan on Tuesday for a state visit, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was seen smirking when asked about his sister’s claims that he was allegedly pursuing a “no-election” scenario.
