Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro said that the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte will proceed as scheduled on July 6, as both sides finalize preparations.
Luistro assured that the timeline remains on track, with only procedural steps left before the start of the trial.
“What's important is that we are moving forward,” Luistro said in an interview on DZRH’s ‘Dos Por Dos’.
“Lahat ng issues submitted na at ang kulang na lang ay matapos itong marking of exhibits at maghintay maglabas ng pre-trial order.”
She added that while the defense is expected to present several witnesses, the proceedings are already in their final preparatory stage.
“‘Yon pong start ng trial sa July 6 [ay] tuloy na tuloy na po ‘yan,” she said.
Meanwhile, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV confirmed that he is among those set to testify, both for the prosecution’s evidence and as part of the defense’s witness list.
“Siguro baka sinama lang ako [bilang testigo] nitong depensa para maipakita nila siguro na hindi sila natatakot sa sasabihin ko,” Trillanes said.
The impeachment trial is expected to tackle various allegations against Duterte including misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, graft and bribery, and assassination threats against incumbent President Ferdinand ‘BongBong’ Marcos Jr.
