The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the driver’s license of a tuk-tuk operator involved in a road crash and counterflow incident in Pasay City that endangered motorists and passengers.
The penalty came after a video circulated online showing the tuk-tuk sideswiping a motorcycle, causing the rider and passenger to be thrown off. Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly fled toward Roxas Boulevard and later counterflowed before halting near F.B. Harrison Street, where passengers disembarked in fear for their safety.
The LTO issued a Show Cause Order directing the registered owner and driver to explain multiple traffic violations, including reckless driving, disregarding traffic signs, and allowing an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. The agency has also placed the vehicle under alarm.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni "Banoy" Lopez emphasized that irresponsible drivers have no place on the road, echoing the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to hold abusive and lawless motorists accountable.
Authorities reminded public utility and special vehicle drivers to strictly observe traffic laws, warning that violations that endanger lives will result in swift administrative sanctions, including license suspension or revocation.
