The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order against the driver of an SUV involved in a collision with two motorcyclists at an intersection leading to Upper McKinley Hill in Taguig City.
According to the LTO, it immediately acted on the incident following the circulation of a viral video shared by the Facebook page “MY RIDE PH,” upon the directive of Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao.
Based on the video, several motorcyclists were crossing the intersection toward Upper McKinley Hill when an SUV coming from Carlos P. Garcia Avenue approached at high speed.
The SUV reportedly passed through the right side of the intersection before colliding with two motorcyclists at the center, causing both riders to fall onto the road.
The driver was ordered to appear before the LTO's Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and submit a sworn explanation regarding the alleged violations cited in the show-cause order.
These include Reckless Driving, Disregarding Traffic Signs, and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, among other possible violations that may be identified during the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the LTO placed the driver's license under a 90-day preventive suspension and ordered its immediate surrender to the IID.
The SUV involved in the incident has also been placed under alarm status while the agency continues its investigation.
“Hindi biro ang mabilis na pagmamaneho, lalo na sa mga intersection kung saan pwedeng makabangga o makapinsala ng ibang tao at motorista. Hindi dahilan ang pagmamadali para isantabi ang kaligtasan. Kung hindi kayang kontrolin ang takbo at pagmamaneho, hindi dapat ilagay sa panganib ang ibang motorista. Mananagot ang sinumang mapatunayang lumabag,” Lacanilao said.
The LTO reminded motorists to drive responsibly and ensure that their vehicles are under control, particularly when approaching intersections and areas with heavy road traffic.
The agency said it will continue taking action against violations that could endanger road users and ensure that those involved undergo the appropriate legal and administrative processes.
