The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued Show Cause Orders (SCOs) against the drivers of a utility van and a motorcycle involved in a road crash in Antipolo City that killed a backrider.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on September 15 along Marcos Highway in Piedra Blanca, Barangay San Luis, Antipolo City.

Based on the police report and LTO investigation, the utility van sideswiped the motorcycle, causing its driver and backrider to fall onto the road. The backrider was subsequently run over by the van’s rear tire and was declared dead on arrival.

The motorcycle driver also sustained injuries.

The police report indicated that the motorcycle driver may have been responsible for the incident.

The LTO, however, issued separate SCOs against both drivers in connection with the crash. They were directed to appear before the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) at the LTO Central Office on September 22 to submit their sworn statements and original supporting documents.

Among the violations cited in the SCOs are reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle, with other possible violations subject to the ongoing investigation.

The driver’s licenses of both motorists were also placed under 90-day preventive suspension, with both drivers ordered to surrender their licenses to the IID.

The utility van and motorcycle were likewise placed on alarm while the administrative proceedings and investigation continue.

“Sa mga ganitong insidente, paalala sa lahat ng motorista na dahan-dahang magmaneho at laging maging alerto sa kalsada,” LTO Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao said.

“Bawat pagmamaniobra ay dapat may sapat na pag-iingat dahil isang saglit na pagkakamali ay maaaring mauwi sa pagkawala ng buhay,” he added.

The LTO urged motorists to observe caution, discipline, and responsible driving to help prevent road crashes and loss of life.
