The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has preventively suspended the license of the oil tanker driver involved in a road crash at Nagtahan Mabini Bridge, in Pandacan, Manila.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza said the action was taken in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure road safety, and upon the instruction of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon. A show cause order was issued to both the registered owner and the driver of the tanker.
“Part of our investigation is to determine the road worthiness of the truck, considering that there was a report that the road crash happened when the truck lost its brakes,” Mendoza said.
A video posted online showed the oil tanker, with license plate TPY630, traveling along the southbound lane of Mabini Bridge before suddenly veering to the right and ramming at least four vehicles. A motorcycle rider was rushed to the hospital due to the collision.
The show cause order, signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) chief Renante Melitante, directed the driver and the registered owner, both residents of Malabon City, to appear before the LTO-IID in Quezon City on August 26, 2025. They are also required to submit a written explanation on why they should not be held liable for operating a vehicle with defective equipment and parts.
The registered owner was further directed to explain why he should not be penalized for employing a reckless driver, while the driver faces charges of reckless driving and being an “improper person to operate a motor vehicle,” an offense that could lead to the revocation of his driver’s license.
Mendoza added that the oil tanker has been placed under alarm pending the outcome of the investigation to ensure the compliance and appearance of the concerned parties during the hearing.
