The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver of an Isuzu MU-X involved in the hit-and-run of a Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) traffic enforcer in Cebu City.
According to the LTO, its investigation, supported by viral CCTV footage, showed that the traffic enforcer had flagged down the vehicle while managing traffic at the intersection of Escario Street and Osmeña Boulevard on July 1, 2026.
Although the driver initially complied, the vehicle allegedly moved forward without warning, striking the enforcer, who fell onto the road. The driver then reportedly accelerated, ran over the victim, and fled the scene without rendering assistance.
The registered owner and designated driver have been ordered to appear before the LTO Region 7 Operations Division to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
As an immediate administrative measure, the LTO imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the driver's license and ordered its surrender pending investigation. The agency also placed the vehicle under alarm status to prevent any transactions involving it while the case is being investigated.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao stressed that traffic enforcers deserve respect as they perform their duties to ensure public safety.
The LTO reiterated its commitment to strictly enforcing traffic laws and taking appropriate action against motorists who endanger public safety through irresponsible driving.
