The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) and a 90-day suspension against the driver of a Toyota Avanza involved in a major traffic incident in Taguig City, where the vehicle collided with 14 motorcycles and one sedan.
According to the Southern Police District, the Avanza experienced a brake malfunction while in transit. Despite the driver’s attempt to avoid collisions by steering to the right, the brakes failed, resulting in multiple vehicle impacts before the SUV finally stopped after hitting an electric post.
Under the SCO, both the registered owner and the driver are required to attend a hearing conducted by the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID). They must submit a verified or sworn explanation, along with original documents, addressing charges of reckless driving and explaining why the driver’s license should not be revoked or suspended for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, the driver’s license and the SUV have been placed under ALARM status. The driver is also required to surrender the license on the date of the hearing. Failure to appear or submit the required documentation will be considered a waiver of the right to be heard, and the case will be resolved based on evidence. The driver may seek assistance from a legal counsel.
The LTO reiterated its commitment to road safety and ensuring accountability for all motorists.
