The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will implement free medical examinations and courier service fees for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) renewing their driver’s licenses.

According to LTO, the agency will provide services directly abroad through regular caravans coordinated with Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

In a released statement, LTO Chief and Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the initiative recognizes the significant contributions and sacrifices of Filipino workers abroad.

“Ang programang ito ay konkretong paraan ng pamahalaan upang ipakita na sila ay pinahahalagahan at hindi nakakalimutan, habang pinapadali ang proseso ng pagrerenew ng kanilang driver’s license,” Lacanilao said.

The program covers free courier service for processed driver’s licenses from the Philippines to select OWWA or DMW offices, as well as Philippine embassies worldwide.

With this initiative, OFWs no longer need to return to the Philippines to renew their licenses.

Records from the LTO show that OFWs can spend up to ₱6,000 on medical and courier fees alone each time they renew their licenses.
