The Land Transportation Office (LTO) clarified that no identification cards are being confiscated from electric tricycle and e-bike riders caught violating the ban on major roads.

In an interview on DZRH’s Dos Por Dos, LTO Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said violators are issued tickets but enforcers were instructed to prioritize guidance, especially during the initial days of enforcement.

"Sabi ko sa enforcer[s], sabihan natin 'yung mga kababayan natin na pumunta sila sa inner road, i-guide natin sila. Hangga't maaari ayoko naman pong mag-impound o manghuli e, kasi ang target ko po 'yung mas malalaking isda. Siyempre mga kababayan natin," Lacanilao said.

"Pero siyempre hindi natin maiiwasan mayroon pong mga matitigas ang ulo kaya na-ticketan po namin," he added.

Lacanilao reported 114 apprehensions on Friday, 75 on Saturday, and 45 on Sunday, noting a downward trend as riders began to comply. Riders without driver’s licenses may still be ticketed using any valid ID, with violations recorded in the LTO system and reflected once they apply for a license.

He said enforcement started January 2 while the Department of Transportation finalizes rules on registration and licensing of e-bike and e-trike users.

E-bikes and e-trikes remain banned on major roads, including EDSA, C-5 Road, Roxas Boulevard, and sections of the South Luzon Expressway, with LGUs allowed to expand restrictions in their areas.
