The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued show-cause orders (SCO) against a vlogger and registered owner of a sports car, the vehicle’s driver, and the LTO-accredited importer following the discovery of irregularities in the vehicle’s registration documents.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao ordered the concerned parties to appear before the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division at the LTO Central Office on Sept. 8 to submit sworn statements and supporting documents.
The vlogger and vehicle owner, along with the driver, were directed to explain allegations involving imitation and false interpretation and to show why the driver’s license should not be revoked for allegedly being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The LTO-accredited importer, meanwhile, was ordered to explain why it should not be held liable under Memorandum Circular No. AVT 2014-023 for alleged fraud and misrepresentation in the filing of applications and its operations, including stock and sales reporting.
As a temporary measure while the investigation continues, the driver was ordered to surrender the license to the IID and will be placed under a 90-day preventive suspension in accordance with LTO procedures.
The sports car was also ordered surrendered to LTO custody for verification and further investigation.
“Simple lang ang paninindigan natin, dapat tama ang dokumento, tama ang rehistro, at tama ang proseso,” Lacanilao said.
He urged motorists to carefully check the documents of vehicles they purchase and called on dealers to ensure that all transactions are legitimate.
“Kung may mali, itama natin at huwag tayong makilahok sa anumang uri ng panloloko,” Lacanilao said.
The LTO said it will continue to strengthen its monitoring, validation and enforcement efforts against irregularities in motor vehicle registration.
The agency also urged the public to ensure that their vehicle documents and transactions are valid and legitimate and to report any suspicious activity or irregularity for appropriate action and investigation.
