The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owner and driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV), identified by the agency as the son of a vice mayor, following a fatal traffic collision in Marikina City that claimed the life of a motorcycle rider.
Under the leadership of LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, the agency immediately launched an investigation after a video of the incident circulated on social media.
Based on the investigation conducted by the Marikina Police Station, the crash occurred in the early hours of June 13, 2026, in Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City. Authorities said the SUV collided with a Yamaha Mio Aerox motorcycle after the rider allegedly made a left turn. The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and was declared dead.
The LTO said the SUV driver underwent an Alcohol Breath Analyzer (ABA) test, which yielded a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.410%, indicating that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
As part of the administrative proceedings, the LTO ordered the registered owner and driver of the SUV to appear before the agency's Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on July 8, 2026. The driver was also directed to submit a verified or sworn explanation, along with supporting documents, explaining why administrative charges for Reckless Driving and Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Narcotic Drug should not be filed, and why the driver's license should not be suspended or revoked for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the LTO imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the driver's license and ordered its immediate surrender to the IID. The agency also placed the SUV under alarm status to prevent any transfer or unauthorized transaction while the investigation is ongoing.
"Wala tayong sinisino. Ang sinumang lumalabag sa batas ay mananagot, anuman ang kanyang katayuan sa buhay o koneksyon. Hindi natin hahayaang may buhay na kapalit ang kawalang-disiplina sa kalsada. Pantay ang pagpapatupad ng batas para sa lahat," Assistant Secretary Lacanilao said.
The LTO reminded motorists never to drive under the influence of alcohol, warning that a single irresponsible decision behind the wheel can endanger not only the driver but also other road users.
The agency reiterated that it will continue to strictly enforce traffic laws and hold accountable anyone found violating road safety regulations, regardless of social status or political connections.
