The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order to the driver of an LTO patrol vehicle after it was spotted parked at a mall in Santa Rosa, Laguna, on Sept. 7.

According to the LTO, it acted on a post in the “VISOR Community” group showing the government vehicle parked at the mall.

The driver was ordered to explain the alleged use of the patrol vehicle for personal activities or transactions, as well as the reason it was parked at the location.

The driver was also directed to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division and submit a sworn explanation regarding the use and operation of the vehicle, including a possible violation involving being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle and other offenses that may be established during the investigation.

The LTO said the driver’s license will be placed under a 90-day preventive suspension. The license was also ordered surrendered to the Intelligence and Investigation Division and placed on alarm status while the investigation continues.

LTO Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao said government vehicles are intended for official duties and public service and should be used responsibly.

“Hindi natin palalampasin ang anumang paglabag at mananagot ang sinumang mapatunayang responsable,” Lacanilao said.

The LTO said it will continue to investigate the incident and ensure that personnel found responsible for improper use of government property face appropriate administrative action.
