The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order against actor-businessman Derek Ramsay over the alleged use of a fake license plate on his supercar while driving on a public road.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao confirmed to a news outlet that Ramsey was the actor involved.

The LTO said its verification found that the plate number displayed on the vehicle had a different alphanumeric combination from the original motor vehicle license plate assigned to it.

The registered owner and designated driver were ordered to appear before the agency's Intelligence and Investigation Division and submit a verified or sworn explanation regarding a possible violation involving the use of number plates.

They were also directed to explain why their driver's license should not be suspended or revoked for being an "improper person to operate a motor vehicle."

The designated driver's license was placed under a 90-day preventive suspension and ordered surrendered to the Intelligence and Investigation Division.

The supercar was also placed under alarm status, while the LTO's Law Enforcement Service was directed to impound the vehicle.

"Walang VIP sa pagpapatupad ng batas," Lacanilao said, stressing that anyone found violating LTO rules will face the appropriate sanctions.

"Ang paggamit ng pekeng plaka at pag-iwas sa mga obligasyong dapat tuparin ay hindi pinapalampas ng LTO," he added.

The agency reminded motorists and registered vehicle owners to ensure that their documents, license plates and vehicle registrations are legitimate and that all required obligations are fulfilled before driving on public roads.

The LTO said a person's status or the name and value of a vehicle would not exempt anyone from enforcement of its rules.
