The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned drivers and vehicle owners involved in a viral road rage incident that occurred on December 24, 2025, at the Marikina City Riverbanks.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao ordered the issuance of a Show Cause Order (SCO), directing the registered owners and drivers of a Ford Ranger pick-up and a Toyota Vios implicated in the incident to appear before the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division (LTO-IID) at East Avenue, Quezon City on January 7, 2026.

Asec. Lacanilao stated that the vehicle owners and drivers are required to submit a verified or sworn explanation addressing why they should not be held administratively liable.

Potential violations under investigation include Reckless Driving, Obstruction of Traffic, and grounds for suspension or revocation of driver’s licenses for being deemed an “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.”

Further review of the LTO database revealed that the Ford Ranger pick-up’s last registration was on September 9, 2024, making the owner potentially liable for violations related to the Compulsory Registration of Motor Vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Ford Ranger and Toyota Vios have been temporarily placed under “ALARM” status, prohibiting any transactions involving these vehicles while the investigation is ongoing.

In addition, Asec. Lacanilao ordered the preventive suspension of the drivers’ licenses for both vehicles for a period of 90 days during the investigation.

The LTO chief emphasized that failure to comply with the order and submit the required sworn explanation will be considered a waiver of the right to be heard, and the case will be resolved based on the available evidence.
