The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show cause order (SCO) against a motorcycle rider who shoved an ice cream vendor in Camarines Sur.

On October 10, the said rider, while traveling along the public Goa Road, overtook an ice cream vendor on the same lane, and pushed him, resulting in the vendor’s injuries, as seen in a widely-circulated video online.

In addition, both the rider and his passenger had not worn helmets.

In response, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao ordered LTO Regional Office V to immediately launch an investigation into the identities of both the rider and the motorcycle’s registered owner.

In the SCO, those involved must appear before the LTO Office V’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit (IIU) to submit a sworn statement or affidavit, along with supporting documents regarding the incident.

The rider faces a possible violation of Reckless Driving and the Motorcycle Helmet Act. His driver’s license may be suspended or withdrawn if he is declared an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

The rider’s license, upon turnover, will undergo a 90-day suspension. Meanwhile, the motorcycle used during the incident has been placed under alarm status.

“Inatasan ko ang Region V na agad imbestigahan ang insidente at tiyaking masusunod ang tamang proseso laban sa rider. Dapat maging responsable sa pagmamaneho at huwag ilagay sa panganib ang kapwa, lalo na sa ganitong uri ng insidente,” Lacanilao said.
