The Land Transportation Office (LTO) apprehended 11 taxis during a law enforcement operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) complex on October 20, 2026, for violations related to their franchises, including alleged refusal to use the meter and overcharging passengers.
According to the LTO, the operation, conducted from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., resulted in the issuance of Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOPs) to the apprehended taxis as part of the agency’s efforts to enforce regulations governing public transportation.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao said the agency would intensify its monitoring of colorum vehicles and taxi drivers who allegedly negotiate fares instead of using their meters or charge passengers excessive fares.
The agency vowed to conduct more enforcement operations against taxi drivers and operators who violate transportation laws and regulations, stressing that it would take appropriate action to protect passengers from exploitation and hold violators accountable.
