The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned a taxi operator after its driver was caught on video throwing trash onto a busy road in Metro Manila.
In a statement on Sunday, October 11, the LTFRB said it issued a show cause order to Green and Smart Mobility Philippines, Inc. after its social media team monitored the viral video showing a taxi with plate number NIZ 4758 littering during a traffic jam.
Acting LTFRB Chairman Atty. Greg G. Pua Jr. said the operator could face the suspension or cancellation of its authority to operate and directed it to explain the incident in writing. The operator was also ordered to have the driver submit an explanation and undergo the proper seminar.
“This is not only about existing ordinance relating to littering. This is also about common sense because no motorist in his right mind would do that,” Pua said.
“Roads are not trash sites. Bilang responsableng operator at car owners, dapat ay mayroong kahit na maliit na lagayan ng basura sa loob ng sasakyan,” he added.
The LTFRB said the hearing is scheduled for October 21. It also urged public utility vehicle operators to ensure their drivers observe road safety regulations, proper waste disposal, and other standards of discipline.
