The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Eastern Visayas reiterated that mandatory fare discounts for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and students must continue despite rising fuel prices.
LTFRB Specialist Veronica Cecilia N. Reposar emphasized that the provision of discounts remains uninterrupted, stressing that increases in petroleum costs are not a valid reason to deny legally mandated benefits to vulnerable sectors.
The agency noted that while transport operators and drivers are affected by fuel price hikes, commuters are equally burdened, making the enforcement of discounts even more essential.
Authorities also warned that drivers and operators who fail to comply may face complaints and possible sanctions, urging the public to report violations directly to LTFRB offices for proper action.
