The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has completed its two-day fuel subsidy distribution for taxi drivers, with total assistance for the sector reaching ₱135 million, demonstrating the government’s continued support for public transport workers.
According to LTFRB Chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II, 5,440 taxi drivers received ₱5,000 each on the second and final day of payouts on April 25, amounting to ₱27.2 million released in a single day. The distribution was extended until 9:00 p.m. to ensure all qualified beneficiaries present were accommodated.
This followed the initial rollout on April 24, where around ₱10 million was distributed to approximately 2,000 taxi drivers.
The initiative was carried out under the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., with the guidance of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), led by Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, as part of efforts to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices.
Mendoza noted that subsidies have also been distributed to other public utility vehicle (PUV) operators through coordinated efforts with transport groups and service entities, helping ensure wider reach and efficient distribution.
He also lauded LTFRB personnel and stakeholders for the smooth implementation of the program, citing strong coordination as key to its success.
In addition to the one-time ₱5,000 assistance, the LTFRB is working with the Department of Energy (DOE) and Land Bank of the Philippines to roll out a ₱10 per liter fuel discount for PUVs nationwide, further easing operational costs for drivers.
