Passengers of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) can enjoy free rides on November 9, 11 and 13 as part of the country's preparations for the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.

According to an announcement by Tourism Philippines, the free rides will be available during the morning and afternoon rush hours, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the specified dates.

The initiative aims to bring the ASEAN Summit celebrations closer to the public while providing transportation assistance to Filipino commuters.

The Philippines is set to host the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings from November 16 to 18, 2026.

Earlier, the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) launched a 10-day Libreng Sakay program for modern jeepneys from November 5 to 14.

The program deploys 30 modern jeepneys serving two major routes: SM Fairview to Buendia and Sucat to Baclaran, operating daily from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the initiative seeks to ensure that Filipinos also benefit from the country's hosting of the regional gathering.

"We will bring the ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings closer to Filipinos, not only through promotions but, more importantly, through public service with the Libreng Sakay program," Angara-Mathay said.
