The low pressure area (LPA) that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday noon is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to PAGASA on Wednesday, May 6.
As of 3 a.m., the LPA was located 670 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Due to this weather system, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
Meanwhile, the weather disturbance previously being monitored outside PAR has intensified into a tropical depression. As of latest monitoring, it was spotted 2,395 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h. It is moving westward at 10 km/h.
The easterlies continue to affect Metro Manila, where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected.
