The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression and was locally named “Pilandok,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday, August 30.

As of 8 a.m., Tropical Depression Pilandok was located approximately 1,245 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said Pilandok is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center, with gustiness of up to 55 kph. It is moving west-northwestward at 15 kph.

The weather bureau continues to monitor the tropical depression as it moves over the Philippine Sea.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression “Saudel,” formerly known as “Obet,” has weakened into a low-pressure area (LPA 08k).

The LPA was last located 1,105 kilometers west-northwest of Extreme Northern Luzon, outside the PAR. PAGASA said it has a medium chance of redeveloping into a tropical depression.

Despite the development of Pilandok, PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will continue to affect parts of the country, bringing rains to several areas in Luzon and the Visayas today.

The public is advised to continue monitoring PAGASA’s latest weather bulletins for updates on Pilandok, the southwest monsoon, and other weather disturbances.
