The low pressure area (formerly LPA 08) being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression and was named “Neneng.”

As of 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 18, Neneng was located at 1,025 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h and central pressure of 1002 hPa.

It is currently moving northwestward at 20 km/h.

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) are currently hoisted.

According to PAGASA, Neneng will continue to move generally west northwestward throughout the forecast period. It is less likely to make landfall over the country and will remain far from the Philippine landmass.

Neneng is also expected to be a short-lived tropical cyclone and is forecast to remain a tropical depression throughout the forecast period before weakening into a remnant low over Taiwan on Thursday, August 20, the PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, an LPA is being monitored outside the PAR and has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Another tropical depression is also being monitored outside the PAR. The state weather bureau said it was located at 3,160 km east of Northeastern Mindanao.

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 55 km/h, while the movement is “almost stationary.”
