Louis Tomlinson took a "trip down memory lane" as he celebrated One Direction’s 16th anniversary, revisiting the band’s discography and sharing behind-the-scenes memories of their biggest songs.
The singer-songwriter celebrated the milestone on July 23 by listening to One Direction’s “whole discography top to bottom” and reflecting on the group’s journey, including special moments with his late bandmate Liam Payne.
“Playing the whole discography top to bottom! Proper trip down memory lane. Some shockers on this first record hahaha,” Tomlinson wrote on X.
While revisiting the band’s songs, Tomlinson shared stories about the recording process and highlighted Payne’s vocal growth. He recalled the moment Payne discovered his falsetto while recording “More Than This,” a track from One Direction’s debut album Up All Night.
“Pretty sure this was when Liam first discovered his falsetto, I remember how proud we all were. He sounds incredible!” Tomlinson wrote in a post on his Instagram story.

Tomlinson also revealed that “Steal My Girl,” released in 2014, remains one of his favorite One Direction singles.

As part of his tribute, the 34-year-old singer thanked the group’s fans, known collectively as Directioners, for their continued support throughout the years.
“16 fucking years of One Direction!!! Blows my mind. Thank you for changing all our lives and the love and passion you all still show is unmatched!” Tomlinson wrote.
“Spending the rest of the day listening to all the bangers and reminiscing! Thank you for all the memories,“ the singer added.
He also paid tribute to Payne, who died in October 2024 at the age of 31.
“And to my brother I miss you every day but especially on days like today. I know we’d have been celebrating today together!” Tomlinson said.
One Direction was formed in 2010 after Tomlinson, Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik auditioned as solo contestants on The X Factor UK before being grouped together as a band. The group finished third in the competition and later signed with Simon Cowell’s record label.
The band became one of the world’s biggest pop acts, releasing five studio albums and producing hits such as “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Story of My Life,” and “Drag Me Down.”
In 2015, Malik left One Direction to pursue a solo career. The remaining members continued as a four-piece before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2016, allowing the members to focus on their individual projects.
