The National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) announced that it will join the upcoming mass protests on Sunday, September 21, to denounce corruption and demand accountability from those involved.
“Lawyers, Stand With the People!” the group said in a Facebook post on Thursday, September 18.
According to the group, they will assemble at 7:00 a.m. at the Supreme Court before marching to Luneta Park at 7:30 a.m.
"Let’s march to the streets and take action against corruption," the call reads.
The protest also coincides with the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.
The protest will highlight demands such as the abolition of the pork barrel system and the prosecution of those officials involved in corruption.
“Justice must prevail, and those who betray the public’s trust must be held accountable,” the group said in a statement.
Multiple groups and individuals, including civil society networks, youth organizations, and church groups, are also set to join the nationwide actions to call out corruption in the alleged anomalies surrounding flood control projects, making September 21 a major day of protest.
