Lino Cayetano was sworn in as the new secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Tuesday, October 13, pledging to improve how the government delivers information to the public and listen to feedback on its communication strategies.

Cayetano said he intends to build on the work of his predecessors by consulting former PCO chiefs and seeking their advice as the government adapts to the evolving communications landscape.

“Pinakaimportante, pinaka-importanteng trabaho ng PCO, which is yung bawat kababayan natin, maabot natin, mabigay natin ng mabilis, tama at epektibong impormasyon tungkol sa ginagawa ng ating gobyerno,” Cayetano said.

He also emphasized the importance of listening to the public and reviewing the office’s communication methods when necessary.

“At yun para sa akin, pangalawa, pinakaimportante, makinig. At kung meron tayong kailangan baguhin, kung meron tayong kailangan i-adjust in the way that we're talking to our people, then the PCO is very much willing to be able to review paano natin naabot,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. explained the frequent changes in leadership at the PCO, saying the demands of the government’s communications strategy have evolved throughout his administration.

“The reason that we have this high turnover is because the job keeps changing in terms of what we are trying to put forward,” Marcos said.

The President explained that the administration initially focused on communicating its policies, then shifted toward implementation before placing greater emphasis on the political aspects of government communications.

He said these changing priorities have required the administration to restructure its communications operations to meet the demands placed on the Presidential Communications Group.
