[UPDATED] Free rides are being offered in several areas of Metro Manila as a three-day transport strike begins Monday, Sept. 28, potentially affecting commuters across the capital.

The Manila city government said its “Oplan Libreng Sakay” program is continuing Monday under the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department to assist commuters affected by the strike.

As of 6 a.m., free-ride vehicles were stationed at the Incident Command Post at Kartilya ng Katipunan in Ermita, Manila, according to the Manila Public Information Office.

The Department of Transportation is also providing free rides Monday, with services available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. along several routes, including Quiapo-Fairview, Quiapo-Welcome Rotonda, Nagtahan-Cubao, Cubao-Fairview and Galleria-Taytay, and vice versa.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is likewise providing free rides to commuters affected by the transport strike.

The PNP said it would maintain police visibility in key areas and remain ready to respond to emergencies. It will also coordinate with concerned authorities to provide transportation assistance to commuters.

The transport strike is scheduled to last three days starting Monday, September 28.
