Lawyer Antonio La Viña, legal counsel for Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste, questioned the complaint against his client over an alleged violation of the Public Service Act, describing it as a “complaint looking for a crime.”

In an exclusive interview with DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan, La Viña argued that no harm had been done to the government or the public, claiming that Leviste’s solar business had helped communities where it was implemented.

“Reklamo na naghanap ng krimen kasi walang crime na nagawa. Wala rin namang masamang nagawa. No harm, no foul,” La Viña said.

The lawyer confirmed that Leviste has yet to post bail following the issuance of an arrest warrant, explaining that the lawmaker must return to the Philippines and personally undergo the required procedures. He added that the case is bailable.

La Viña also questioned suggestions that the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) could be involved, saying the matter does not warrant such action. He further warned that any attempt to cancel Leviste’s passport could be challenged in court, citing the constitutional right to travel.

Despite questioning the case, La Viña stressed that legal proceedings must follow due process, saying every criminal charge must be taken seriously under the rule of law.
