Filipino theater and entertainment icon Lea Salonga is set to make history as the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, honoring her contributions to live theater and live performance.

The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles announced the milestone Aug. 14, celebrating Salonga’s international career spanning Broadway, film, music and the concert stage.

Salonga, a Tony and Olivier Award-winning artist, has helped pave the way for Filipino and other Asian performers to reach audiences around the world.

Her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony is scheduled for early September, coinciding with the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF), which will run from Sept. 3-6 in Los Angeles.

Salonga will also receive the MIFF Icon Award during the festival’s closing night gala on Sept. 6 at The Beverly Hilton.

The honor comes as Salonga continues to celebrate her legacy in both theater and film. A Disney Legend, she provided the singing voice of Mulan in Disney’s 1998 animated film and is known for her rendition of “Reflection,” one of the movie’s signature songs.

Recently, Salonga performed “Reflection” at Disney’s D23 celebration concert in California, revisiting the song that helped cement her place in the Disney legacy.

Salonga’s Broadway career includes her Tony Award-winning performance as Kim in “Miss Saigon,” while her other major stage credits include “Les Misérables,” “Allegiance” and “Once on This Island.”

Her upcoming Walk of Fame recognition further marks her influence as a Filipino artist who has achieved global prominence across multiple entertainment platforms.
