A commuters’ rights group has called on the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to issue subpoenas against contractor couple Curlee and Sara Discaya despite their refusal to cooperate in the ongoing investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects, as reported by RH Jecelle Ricafort.
In an interview with DZRH News, Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection (LCSP) Founder Atty. Ariel Inton said the ICI must compel the couple to attend the hearings and respond to allegations surrounding the controversial projects.
“Abogado din naman na mahuhusay at sinasabi nila hindi natin kailangan ng state witness, dahil sapat na ‘yong document, pre-evidence, ‘yong mga ibang ebidensya para ma-convict sila. There is a reasonable certainty of conviction,” Inton said.
He also questioned the credibility of the ICI for keeping its hearings away from the public eye.
“Nawawala daw ‘yong kredibilidad ng ICI dahil ayaw nitong buksan sa publiko ‘yong kanilang pagdinig,” he added.
Curlee Discaya, who remains under Senate custody after the Pasay City Regional Trial Court dismissed their habeas corpus petition, and his wife Sarah Discaya are among those being investigated for alleged corruption and overpricing in government flood control projects.
