Lawmaker raises safety concerns over endurance event
by Jim Fernandez05 February 2026

Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores was alarmed by the accidents recorded during the 2025 BOSS Ironman Motorcycle Challenge in Mindanao.

According to Flores, the endurance event was carried out on a public road that endangered motorists, pedestrians, and residents in the communities where the event took place.

A seven-year-old was reported to have died due to the event.

Apart from this, reports of overspeeding, counterflowing, and the violation of traffic rules by a number of participants caused serious accidents.

It can be recalled that during the 2024 hearing of the House Committee on Transportation, Joseph Tan, the BOSS President, apologized and assured he was ready to suspend the endurance challenge.

This followed data released by the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) showing 25 road crash incidents logged during the Luzon and Mindanao legs of the event in 2024.

Due to this, Flores called for accountability and a review of whether the BOSS Ironman should still be allowed in its current state for the sake of public safety.
