Eudice Chong of Hong Kong and En-Shuo Liang of Chinese Taipei proved they were the last Asian pair standing as the third seeds staged a thrilling comeback to capture the doubles crown at the inaugural WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open on Friday, January 30, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Chong and Liang bounced past the tournament’s top seeds, Americans Quinn Gleason and Sabrina Santamaria, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-6, to seal the title in a match that showcased resilience, composure, and timely shot-making under pressure.

The Asian duo struggled to find their footing early, dropping the opening set as Gleason and Santamaria controlled the tempo with aggressive returns and solid net play. But Chong and Liang refused to back down, steadily raising their level in the second set and matching the Americans point for point.

Their persistence paid off in the tiebreak, where Chong and Liang surged ahead and dominated 7-2 to force a decisive match tiebreak. Riding the momentum, they maintained their intensity in the final frame, opening up a lead and holding firm as the Americans attempted to claw back.

With sharp volleys and calm execution in the closing points, Chong and Liang closed out the match to claim the doubles championship, marking a memorable triumph as the last Asian representatives standing in the tournament.

The victory capped an impressive run for the Hong Kong–Chinese Taipei tandem and etched their names in history as the first doubles champions of the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open.
