Las Piñas-Muntinlupa District Engineering Office (LMDEO) Maintenance Chief Engr. Loreto Balena Jr. was sacked due to his slow response to the effects of recent storms and reportedly neglecting his duties, announced the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Sunday, August 30.
In a memorandum dated August 29, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon dismissed Balena from his post because of “repeated reports” of “unsatisfactory performance.”
“In view of repeated reports concerning your unsatisfactory performance, lack of urgency, and delayed response to calamities, you are hereby relieved of your duties as Maintenance Chief of the Las Piñas-Muntinlupa District Engineering Office, effective immediately,” Dizon wrote.
The former official was instructed to accomplish all pending documents and deliverables, and formally turn over all official records, papers, and properties.
The move is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to “clean out” the DPWH of ineffective officials and staff and strengthen discipline to ensure excellent and swift public service.
