Senator Lito Lapid is in favor of the law adjusting barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials’ terms.

The law, just recently signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., would allow the government to save billions in funds, as estimated by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, said Lapid in a report by RH 28 Raymund Dadpaas.

These funds may instead be reallocated to serving the sectors affected by the oil crisis and recent increase in the prices on basic goods, Lapid continued.

However, the senator said he respects Atty. Romy Macalintal having called the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) suspension.

The BSKE was previously scheduled for November 3.

With the new law in effect, the BSKE has been moved to November of 2028.

Senator Lapid made the statement after making rounds at three barangays in Batangas City to distribute grocery packs among 600 residents, which includes 200 solo parents, 200 daycare pupils, 200 members of the LGBTQ+ community, and indigents.

In a brief message, Lapid conveyed his concern and care for the beneficiaries, noting that the initiative brought a measure of joy and assistance to underprivileged Batangueños.

Following the gift-giving event in Batangas City, Lapid headed to Lipa City to inspect the City Hall annex building currently under construction, a project he funded through the government.
