Senator Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson slammed Senator Imee Marcos' video presentation during Monday’s Senate plenary, questioning its credibility amid renewed tensions over allegations that some lawmakers were pushing for a term extension.
“In the Senate plenary yesterday, peke ang source, peke ang messenger; pati ang back-up, peke,” Lacson said in a post on X on Tuesday, May 26.
This contrasted the late television host and journalist Lourdes Carvajal, popularly known as "Inday Badiday," whom he described as authentic and truthful, trusted and credible, according to Lacson.
“In showbiz, during her prime, Maria Lourdes Jimenez-Carvajal, more popularly known as ‘Inday Badiday’ was a decent person. She was authentic and truthful, trusted and credible,” the senator said.
The remarks came after a video presentation by Senator Marcos in the Senate, which allegedly contained documents and claims about a supposed move to amend the 1987 Constitution.
Members of the minority bloc disputed the material, saying it lacked a factual basis.
On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri expressed frustration over the video.
Zubiri also drew attention during the session when he referenced Inday Badiday in describing what he called a “circus” in the chamber, later apologizing for the remark and clarifying it was a slip of the tongue.
He also asked, “Inday Badiday na ba tayo rito sa Senado?” while condemning what he described as “fake news” circulating in relation to charter change and term extension issues.
Following the controversy, Marcos said she would comply with the request of Senate leadership to withdraw the video presented during plenary. Zubiri subsequently also withdrew his motion to strike the video from the Senate record.
Zubiri later apologized to the family of Inday Badiday for invoking her name in his remarks.
