Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has dismissed Senator Imee Marcos’ accusations that the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee selectively investigates officials in relation to the issue of widespread corruption in the country, saying he will not dignify her claims with a response.
“Out of respect for all the senators of the 20th Congress and the hardworking staff of the Blue Ribbon Committee. I choose not to dignify Sen. Marcos’ unfair, untruthful, and baseless accusations,” Lacson said.
During an online news conference yesterday, Marcos accused the committee of avoiding the investigation of her cousin, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and other Malacañang officials allegedly involved in the flood control scam, while also allegedly pressuring senators so they could be the ones sued.
Marcos also indicated that on January 15, legal complaints would be filed against Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Joel Villanueva, former Senator Bong Revilla Jr., Benguet Representative Eric Yap, and CWS Party-list Representative Edwin Gardiola.
Meanwhile, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III firmly denied Marcos’ allegations, stating that no senator is barred from asking questions during Blue Ribbon hearings. He described the accusation as “invented and impossible.”
