The water level of La Mesa Dam reached spilling level on Saturday afternoon, August 29, amid heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” the Quezon City local government said.
In an advisory, the city government said the dam’s water level reached the 80.15-meter threshold as of 1:50 p.m.
The local government warned that excess water from the dam could affect low-lying communities along the Tullahan River.
Residents in the following potentially affected areas were urged to remain vigilant and evacuate if necessary amid the risk of flooding:
- Fairview
- Forest Hills Subdivision
- Quirino Highway
- Sta. Quiteria
- San Bartolome
Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of the possible release of water from La Mesa Dam as its water level continued to rise due to persistent rains.
